materials in school and the children’s house
The foundation
stone of a Montessori institution is the so-called "prepared
environment".
A very important aspect of the prepared environment is the well
thought-out, high quality materials. Our classrooms and their
specialist rooms and workshops etc… are all equipped with the
special Montessori materials for the following areas: the children’s
house, biology, geography, music and sensory material. All materials
are made from high quality material
(mainly wood) and are designed in all shapes and sizes suitable for
children, to entice the children to play with them. For most
materials only one set of them is available in each classroom, which
makes them more attractive. The children are shown how to use the
particular material by a teacher or an experienced child. The
ready-made Montessori materials are supplemented by other materials
that are made individually in accordance with Montessori principles
and by materials that take into account current pedagogical
development. All learning materials correspond to the principles of
Montessori teaching such as self-directed work, fault control,
structured work, beauty and stability.
The
illustrations have partly been developed by the children themselves.
