Montessori School in
Kassel.
„We“ means the
parents and teachers who value the development of our children very
highly. We have run the Montessori School Kassel as a private school
since 1999, based on a cooperation between the children, teachers
and parents, on the outskirts of Kassel in the Rasenallee, no. 83.
The aim of founding the school was to create a place of learning and
living for children where they could unfold their individual
capabilities in their own time. A desire to learn, enjoying being
able to do things independently and treating others with respect
should all form part of their school life.
Integral
learning can be initiated in the individualized learning time in a
prepared environment by using Montessori materials and additional
materials, aswell as being introduced and conveyed by the teacher.
In addition to the 2 to 3 hours each day of individualized learning
time there are other forms of teaching:
The morning circle and subject teaching, projects and project-based
lessons, practical training and clubs. Through the selection and
rhythm of these offers we are trying to achieve an integral
education for our pupils. The childrens’ strengths should be
selectively encouraged to achieve a good level of self-confidence
and a stable development of personality. This is possible
through art, music and theatre.
The prepared
environment should create room for the discovering and unfolding of
individual creativity and therefore offer the possibility to convey
individual works. In the individualized learning time each pupil can
work in a way that is suitable for him and move freely. The children
learn how much influence their body and posture have on their work
results. Sport and exercise in the breaks lead to the development of
body awareness and can increase self-awareness. In the morning
circle / discussion group the children can learn to articulate,
which is important to them, and to listen to what other people have
to say. It is here that they especially learn, amongst other things,
about the social aspects of a community and where the foundation
stone for democratic procedure and a culture of discussion is laid.
In order to achieve integral learning and experience being within a
community, we regularly organize joint enterprises: festivals,
school trips to adventure camps, hikes, performances etc…
